“everything will be okay”
when we say
everything will be okay
we do not mean
that anything will be good
that anything will work out
that you can dodge loss
or mourning
or corrosive regret.
we mean
that life always meant to be half-tragic,
and it will have its due
and you will love it anyway,
find some piece of it to love
or if you cannot love it,
you will find meaning in it
and if you cannot find meaning in it,
it will make you appreciate the good parts
and if you can’t find any of those,
it will at least be beautiful,
if only to another,
and, hey - living is a sacrament.
and all of this is as inevitable
as impersonal
as erosion
as collapse
as eating meat.
it will be okay.
it’s supposed to be this way.
